3D Rendering

3D Photorealism is in many respects a conceptual art form created to supply a competitive industry set on tight deadlines, low budget expectations and high quality standards.

The goal is to produce a 100% synthetic image or sequence able to blend within a photographic or cinematic setting, rendering the final result as one and the same to the audience.

The possibilities offered by modern 3D software packages like Autodesk Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D or Blender, have been catering to the widest commercial visual applications, since the mid 90's.

Initially developed around the movie industry, to lower significantly the costs of production special effects, the use of 3D rendering and animation evolved to the point of breaking out of the cage of flashy special effects restricted predominantly to low-budget sci-fi and action movies and television productions.

The visual effects industry discovered the application of 3D rendering technology to recreate true photorealistic settings, indistinguishable from film footage, hence lowering budgets by restricting the need of filming on location.

Like for any other art form, the limit is posed by knowledge of the tools, problem-solving skills, the ability to research, and creativity.
